Allyssa Trujillo is a multidisciplinary dance artist currently based in Brooklyn, NY. Coming from a mixed cultural and dance background, she embraces her polychromatic identity and considers her style to be a montage of her lived experience, community, and ancestors. Over the past 15 years, Allyssa has found solace and belonging through dance, exploring a variety of dance styles, including contemporary, modern, jazz, ballet, hip hop, waacking, and pole dance. Growing up in Gallup, she received her early dance education at Foundations of Freedom Performing Arts Studio, where she eventually moved her way up to head dance instructor and choreographed her first full production at age 17. In 2022, Allyssa received her BA in Contemporary Dance and a minor in Arts Leadership and Business at the University of New Mexico. While attending college, Allyssa performed in the UNM Contemporary Dance Ensemble, where she studied with and performed works by Francesca Harper, Miguel Guiterrez, Vladimir Conde Reche, Donna Jewell, Amanda Hamp, and others. In 2019, her choreographic work, Voice, was selected to represent UNM at the 2020 Southwest Regional American College Dance Conference. Since graduating, Allyssa continued to expand her experience, diving into immersive theater with venues such as Meow Wolf interactive art exhibit and Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, modeling at SWAIA Native Fashion Show (2024) and Somos ABQ (2022), co-creating evening length performances with her partner, Raven Bright at Oregon Shakespeare Festical (2022, 2024), and integrating into pole and street dance communities across the globe. In March of 2025, Allyssa traveled to Gaungzhou, China, to represent Team USA with Princess Lockerooo at Queen of Disco, an international waacking battle and festival. Allyssa has also continued to teach locally and internationally for organizations such as Keshet Dance and Center for the Arts (NM), Konaway Nika Tillicum (OR), and MaoriLand (Otaki, New Zealand) with hopes of fostering cultural exchange and creating access for students to explore and express themselves through movement. Allyssa enjoys any opportunity she gets to showcase her unique artistry, tell a story, and interact with her community.
